Artists Chosen for Artsy Switch Boxes!
Phase one of the Artsy Switch Box Project for 2025 is complete! After having over 30 community members vote on the submissions, and the public arts team review the results, 14 artworks were chosen to be displayed on Madison’s hilltop and in Hanover. Pieces were considered for their readability on busy roads and in high traffic areas. Bold colors, recognizable shapes, and high contrast visuals were key components of a successful piece. Each artist has been informed that their work will be displayed as public art for the next two years!
‘Stars” quilt by Anne Cusker, “Purple Flowers” by Julianne Turner, “Peonies” by Bonnie Peugeot Meadows, “Day Before the Renewal” and “See who is Renewed” by Brette McGlasson, “Oranges” by Gabrielle Hammersley, “Janie’s Hearts” by Jane Vonderheide, “The Visitor” and “The Address” by Joey Ernst, “Fall Beauty” by Kathryn Rutherford, “Susie’s Susans” by Kim Swensen, “Zapata” by Mike Estes, and “Making Music” by Pat Newman. Congratulations to the artists chosen by our community, and a big thanks to everyone who submitted art! Phase two is the fabrication process, which entails having artwork photographed and transformed into a film which covers the switch boxes. Look for new switch box art over the course of the year. This is a big process!
